Brazil Spotlight

October 3, 2022

 Adriana Degreas

Adriana Degreas, an incredibly talented Brazilian fashion designer, is our designer spotlight for week four. Included in Vogue's top list of Brazilian designers, Degreas is mostly known for her luxury beachwear brand, also called Adriana Degreas. Furthermore, it is known as one of most luxurious brands available for beachwear in the world and is widely recognized for her intricate designs, tasteful aesthetics, and beautiful outfits. Her style primarily mixes elements of cool-chic, interesting shapes and cuts, all intertwined with her Brazilian background to create what she calls, "the new vintage". All of this is geared towards her target market, which is for any remarkable woman seeking contemporary looks with a retro design. That being said, the primary reason why she is this week's spotlight is because of her exquisite poolside fashion, which, according to The Bain Couture, is the "perfect marriage between swimwear and couture...bringing together the ultimate sophistication to poolside fashion". In the end, her accurate craftsmanship, fine fabrics, and cut-out pieces bring poolside fashion to a whole new light, filled with elegant construction and feminine qualities.

Adriana Degreas: New Resort Wear Collection

1. For this look, Degreas utilizes interesting wavy and triangular cut out shapes on the top and bottom portion of the skirt. It's definitely quite feminine, considering the puff sleeves, and playful, with hints of a youthful appeal. The lilac color is also beautiful, paying homage the diverse plant life and flowers of Brazil.

2.This swimsuit is yet another example of Degreas' use of intricate cut out shapes, as seen with the wavy straps. It's also described as very chic and youthful, with its high cut out. The color, however, is what really makes this piece stand out, as the golden brown is reminiscent of the earth tones and sunsets of Brazil.

3. Utilizing her famous wavy cut outs, this piece truly exemplifies Degreas' use of interesting shapes to create a feminine and modern look. Perfect for the beach or poolside, this outfit is both practical and stylish, with just the right amount of exposure of the bust area. In addition, the white color not only makes this appear more lightweight, but also resembles the color of the white sandy beaches of Brazil.

4. This two-piece bikini top and bottom, though appearing simplistic, is very interesting in its design, with much of the focal point being on the wavy cut out of the top. Furthermore, though there is much less detail going on here, in comparison to her other looks, it is still feminine and beautiful, especially with the lilac color.

5. For this dress, Degreas, once again, utilizes her well-known lilac tones and cut out shapes on the hem, knee, and upper portion of the garment, giving a cooler feel, perfect for the summer heat of Brazil.

6. Giving a different take, Degreas uses the color black on this two-piece ensemble, making it appear more elegant and chic. The top is one of the more eye-catching pieces, with its wavy cut-out under the bust. In addition, the simplicity of the skirt works well with the cut-out hem, making it a more interesting design.

7. For this look, Degreas uses a warmer color not previously used, orange, mimicking the sunsets and floral life of Brazil. Her use of the wavy cut-out on the upper and lower portion of the bust, along with the hem, makes this dress more adventurous and playful, giving a very youthful persona.

8. Giving a new take on swimwear, this two-piece bikini set is quite unique in execution, given Degreas' use of feathers for the top. It feels as though it references the many tropical birds native to Brazil, and the use of the orange feathers combined with the shiny fabric really makes this piece stand out on its own.

9. This dress is a completely different take in comparison to the other garments. It truly exemplifies Degreas' use of pastels and interesting shapes to create a cohesive and colorful piece, highlighting the vivacity of Brazil. Though the actual garment has no wavy cut-outs, the plunging neckline and artwork make this dress one-of-a-kind, beautiful, and youthful.

10. For this final look, the garment undeniably taps into the feminine qualities Degreas is known for, with its puffy sleeves and wavy details. Also, the amount of exposure on the bust and lower legs makes for an interesting design, while the white color is the soothing feature here, given the amount of detail going on.
