Fashion Universe: Highlighting fashion from all over the world, one designer at a time.

Vision

The purpose of this blog is to cover fashion from all over the world, along with highlighting designers/business owners from specific countries and their creations we will be exhibiting each week. With that being said, this blog not only intends to showcase fashion from different countries but also expose our viewers to other cultures and art on a more universal scale. It's also intended to support these global fashion designers by examining their clothing and websites that showcase their creative endeavors and outfits.

Denis Gagnon

by Denisse Quijas

As you've seen in our previous posts, we have covered two fantastic fashion designers-Lorena Saravia from Mexico and Ryunosuke Okazaki from Japan. Today, we'll cover another great designer with more than two decades of career; Denis Gagnon. He was born in Alma. A town in Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean, in the Canadian province of Quebec. His passion and love for fashion began when he was a child by making dresses for her sister's dolls. In his early twenties, he moved to Montreal and studied at LaSalle College in the same city, where he discovered his innate talent for pattern-making. Denis has worked as a costume designer in Montreal's theater and pattern-making instructor in Casablanca in Morocco. By 2010, he opened his first boutique on Saint-Paul Street in Montreal. Throughout his career, he has collaborated with lancĂ´me and Bedo. Likewise, several celebrities have worn his designs on red carpets, concerts, and TV shows. In 2018, he created "Denise" a more affordable line for mid-range customers.
During the pandemic, the designer started a new adventure as an artist, creating a bazaar where he restored and added his personal touch to vintage pieces.
Denis Gagno's designs are Ready-to-wear pieces made 100% in Montreal by the designer and his assistant. His fabrics and material suppliers are locals. Therefore, the designer works with unique and different textiles in each of his pieces. His designs are known for combining textures and layers and for his draping talent. It seems that art sculptures inspired his creations. In addition to his boutique on Saint-Pail St, his pieces are for sale at Simons stores across Canada.

  Denis Gagnon Collection 2022

1. As we see in this editorial picture, the designer gave us a taste of his new collection by combining different fabrics, textures, and prints with a colorful palette.

2. This black velvet look dress shows the artist's work of draping of the designer. Also, we can appreciate the combination of two different fabrics.

3. This dress is made of two fabrics combining an animal print textile with a plain black fabric. Here, we can see the movement of an oversize draping on top and the playful bottom of the dress.

4. Here, we have a black top and a plated animal print skirt integrated, creating a dress. Again, the dress is made of two different textiles.

5. For the following design, the designer created an ivory pleated sophisticated dress. The dress's pleated top and bottom give harmonic movement to the garment.

6. In the Next ivory dress, Gagnon shows us how he played with draping layers at the top of the dress. Also, we can appreciate the layers that the volume of the sleeve created.

7. Here, this shiny black dress is part of Denise's line collection. Once more, the garment shows the combination of two fabrics and textures and the layering movement we saw in previous designs.

8. Once again, this oversized dress is made of gold plated and plain black fabric. The plated textile gives structure to the dress. This dress is part of Denise's line collection.

9. Moving forward with the vintage restation that Gagnon has been making, we have a four-panel screen folding here. Hand-painted and engraved with colorful patterns and women's illustrations.

10. This back chair is another object of Gagno's bazaar. Like many designer creations, it is made of different materials: metal, black suede seat, and the backrest sheep's wool texture.

In conclusion, as illustrated by the images of Denis Gagnon's creations, they show movement and structure in each piece through plated fabrics and their combination of textures. We could say that his clothes are for sophisticated and contemporary women. For his bazaar Restauration objects, we can appreciate the personal touch of Gagnon in each of them. Gagnon is a well-established Canadian designer.
